Measure twice…cut once…

These are words to live by..unfortunately, I never live by them.  I am constantly in a rush and constantly trying to do a million things at once!  I hate to follow patterns and directions, yet at the same time I am a perfectionist!  These things do not go well together.  I am always having to redo things that I did incorrectly.  I keep reminding myself that it is okay to slow down and breathe….as my youngest daughter says, “Chew and swallow, chew and swallow.”  I’m trying to remember to measure twice, cut once….but it isn’t easy.

What to get a one year old…..

I have been trying to think of a good birthday gift for a one year old.  Long ago I made bean bags and my children have always enjoyed playing with them. They are one of those toys that they constantly go back to..inventing new games for them, no matter what age.  My original bean bags were painted. This time I decided to embroider them, which took much longer, but I think it was well worth the effort.  One side has the numbers 1 through 10 and the other side has a color and number coordinated picture.

Recycling…

I love recycling things when I can and I love sewing.  So, when my son said he needed some more summer pajamas..I had an idea.  We had just gone through all his old tshirts and made a huge pile of shirts that didn’t fit him any longer.  He is always sad when he has to part with some of his favorite shirts.  So, I found a pattern for shorts and made him a whole bunch of summer pajama shorts using his old shirts.  It took two shirts to make one pair of shorts, so he had a fun time matching up the shirts and he loved seeing his old shirts recycled into something new!  And he said they were the most comfortable shorts he had ever worn!2009-06-10.JPG

My new best friend…..

Okay…it has been awhile since I have posted anything new.  But this is my new best friend.  I have wanted a bobbin winder for a long time now.  This is the SideWinder.  It needs a little tweaking..but it is working out so well.  I would like to mount it to a board because right now it is very tipsy.  But I like to be able to wind about 6 bobbins at a time so that I don’t have to do it every time my machine runs out of thread.

Monkeys….

Somehow I always seem to end up sewing monkeys.  When it comes to my woolies, monkeys definitely seem to be the most popular design.  And I do like them.  And they are fun to make.  And they are cute.  So, monkeys it is…
