Embrace the Camera……lovin’ it……

So, I wanted to participate in Embrace the Camera with Emily over at her blog, 3 boys and a little lady….and I wanted to take photos with my three children…I can’t tell you if I have ever taken photos with just me and my three children…how sad is that??  Well, River instantly decided she wanted no part of it…..so Quinn and Tuesday and I took a bunch of photos..we had so much fun..and then at the end…River joined us..though she was still a bit grumpy.

We had so much fun taking all the photos..and it was great to get some good ones of just me and Tuesday and then me and Quinn and then the three of us….and then River…..

We took a million photos..I had a hard time picking out my favorites!!

Embrace the camera…with upside down chin faces….

It is Embrace the Camera time again…….from Emily and her blog, 3 boys and a little lady.  It was supposed to happen yesterday, but I wasn’t able to post….too much craziness!

So, we decided to have some fun……and we had a blast!  We had so many great pictures….and laughed so hard..I didn’t know which photos to choose from…..we did the classic upside down mouth/face photos!  At first, River thought it sounded too strange and wouldn’t participate..but once she saw how much fun we were having..she wanted to jump right in and have her photo taken!

Tuesday and I were upside down on the sofa…with a blanket covering the top part of our heads….and I was holding the camera……trying to take photos..but it was just too hard…and we were laughing way too much!!  Then, I decided to just take the photos normally…..(if you can call it that!) and then turn them upside down and crop them in Photoshop…so much easier! The first set of photos are of Tuesday and I…..

Then there are some of Quinn and I…..

And the last one is of Tuesday and River……We had an awesome time!!

Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend…go take some great photos with your kids!!

River takes the camera….

Today’s post is brought to you by River….after art class…on the walk home..I gave her my camera and let her take photos.  Whenever we used to go on long bike rides..we used to let Tuesday and Quinn take photos..along the way.  I always loved looking at the photos the took….a different perspective.  River was so excited to get to take photos!  She had a great time.

Happy Weekend!

Embrace the Camera….

So, I’ve been following Emily and her blog, 3 boys and a little lady…..and every Thursday she does a post called Embrace the Camera…so this week I’ve decided to play along.  For some reason, River was not in a picture taking mood..so I had to bribe her with candy corn!  I got inspired by Ashley, over at The Domestic Wannabe, to take mirror photos…..they turned out okay..but it was slightly overcast and, as I stated, River was not in a cooperative mood!  I will have to give it another try next week!

Shoot Along Challenge…Then + Now…..

So, last Wednesday, over at Giverslog, Amberlee and Carrie Butler had another  shoot along challenge…..then and now….recreating the same photo……

Well, that is an easy one for me…I am a bit of a fanatic about this!  I love to recreate the same photo every year!  We do it at Christmas, Halloween…all the time!  Seriously, I am addicted to doing this…I had a hard time deciding what photos to show for this post!  This is one of my favorite things to do with photography!

One of my favorite “then and now” photos is a photograph that I took of my oldest daughter when she was about 2 1/2 years old.  I loved this photo so much and played around with it in Photoshop…..then my husband surprised me by having it made into a poster.  When my son was the exact same age, I redid the photo…..and my husband again had it made into a poster.  I was so excited to redo the photo when my daughter was the same age…I literally counted down the days….but I no longer had the same hat and we didn’t live in the same house….so it looks slightly different.  But all three photos were taken when they were almost exactly the same age….2 years, 11 months and 25 days….

The photo montages hang in our living room…..we haven’t gotten River’s made into a poster yet…..some day soon….

The

Shoot Along Challenge…..

So, last Wednesday, over at Giverslog, Amberlee and Carrie Butler had a shoot along challenge…..pick a time of day and take a photograph at that time of day, for a particular amount of days…..

So, I decided to photograph River, for five days, not including the weekend….at 5 pm.  I thought it would be best to only do a small amount of days the first time I did this!!  It was hard to remember some days because that time of day is so busy!  I often had to set a timer, write myself a note….or just leave the camera out as a reminder!

But it was worth it…..!!  I photographed her just as she was…..not giving her any direction and it was amazing how different each photo is……

Atomic Fire Balls, Hot Tamales and Cry Baby Sour Balls……photo shoot…..

So, I am still following along with the Giver’s Log Shoot Along and this weeks assignment was to do a sour face or fire ball photo shoot.  So, we went out and bought some Hot Tamales, Atomic Fireballs and Cry Baby Sour gum.  Everyone got in on the act and got their picture taken.  The real challenge of the day was to put all three different candies in your mouth at once…but no one was up to that challenge!

River didn’t want to try the hot stuff…and I didn’t force her….she thought the sour balls were delicious and didn’t make any good faces…except cute ones!!!!!  Tuesday was convinced that River is too young and didn’t know what sour was…but I assured her, that River knows what sour is…but for some reason…thought the sour balls were yummy!

It was  a lot of fun to look over all the funny faces….especially my own!  I think Tuesday made the best faces of all…with Quinn coming in a close second!

Taking Photos……

One of my favorite blogs is Giver’s Log.   They are having a Giver’s Log Photo Shoot Along.  You can read all about it at the site.  I love photography and I love taking photos…so this seemed perfect for me.

The first assignment was to “think about what is part of your life right now that you’ll want to remember in a couple years? If you have kids, what is your kid doing right now that he won’t be doing six months from now that you need to remember?  Does she love a special stuffed animal?  Does she read a specific book while she sits on the potty? Your homework is to get out your camera, (fancy or not) set up the story, and take the shot. ”

So, I got my daughter River to play along with me…..she loves her stuffed elephants right now…so they had to be included in the shoot.  Also, I love her little freckles.  She has freckles, only in the summer, just like her big sister..and I love them.

So, here are my best shots from our photo shoot today…….

Capturing memories….

I took care of my grandmother for about three years before she died.  She died when she was 99 years old.  She lived in the same house for approximately 77 years.   She knew every single inch of that house…inside and out.  I think I knew the house pretty well…but I didn’t want to forget it.  Right before my grandmother died, I saw a photography exhibit.  The entire exhibit was photos of the photographer’s mother’s house…..right after she died.   The little details, the small moments…that you might otherwise forget.

I knew I had to do this…..and I am so glad that I did.   After my grandmother died, before I started cleaning everything out…I went through the house and took many photos of all the rooms….doorknobs, photos, wallpaper, plates, light switches…..things that I knew my grandmother treasured.

Things that seemed so small and insignificant….yet held so many memories.  Lightswitches that my grandmother turned on and off thousands of times, dishes that my grandmother cleaned over and over again, railings that helped my grandmother get up and down the stairs..year after year after year…..the wood worn down to show the years….

I am so glad that I have these memories….and I look back at them often.

They are photos that I will treasure for a lifetime……

A Moment in Time….

On Sunday, May 2nd, The New York Times hosted a Moment in Time event.  At about 11 am that day, everyone in the world was invited to snap a moment in time.  “The idea is to create an international mosaic, an astonishingly varied gallery of images that are cemented together by the common element of time.”

The above photo was my “moment in time.” They are going to be publishing all the photos.

Of all the photos they have published so far…I love this photo.   It is by Silvia Izzi, Italy and is entitled”Lazy Sunday.”  It makes me want to spend a lazy Sunday at that home!
