Excuse Me..Are You a Witch Mural….continues…

I’m slowly making progress on the new mural.  It is nice to be doing a smaller mural.  I can see the progress much faster…….not that I’m progressing that much faster..but even when I do something small, it seems like more.

The problem with this area is that it belongs to the dogs, literallly.  It is the only spot in the house where they like to sleep.  They aren’t allowed on any furniture, so this is their way of thinking they are on the furniture.  So, while I am painting, I have to shoo them away.  Then, when I am done, I have to put something on the window seat, to keep them away, until it is dry!

After the mural is finished, I need to get new cushions and sew new covers and pillows!

Still sketching….

So, I am still sketching for my new mural.  It is in our living room, in the reading nook.  The sketch is a bit hard to see in the photograph…..The drawing is from the book “Excuse Me….Are You a Witch?” by Emily Horn and illustrated by Pawel Pawlak.  It is an adorable book.  The picture features the main character, Herbert, in the library….!

To be continued when I actually start the painting…….

Starry Night officially completed…at least for now….

2010-04-12a.jpg

No, I really am declaring it done…really.  At least for now.   I have to…it has taken me about a year and a half to complete it.  Some months I didn’t work on it at all…and others I seemed to never stop.

I always loved the book ‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey.  It has been one of my favorites, especially since we are vegetarians.   I loved this particular drawing and I always thought it would look great on a wall..a big wall….so, I looked at our stairway going up…and figured it was the best wall.  And I had been wondering how to paint this wall.  It had been unpainted since we moved in four years ago.  I never painted such a large mural before.  First I decided on a base color and painted the entire wall that color.   Then I started with the tree…I don’t know why, I just wanted it to be the central item.  I figured this drawing was inspired by Starry Night and I love that particular painting..so it just evolved into my own interpretation of The Starry Night.

It took a bit longer than I anticipated, but that was my own doing.   It was a lot of fun to watch it progress.  I took a million photos of each stage..sometime I need to put them all together in a little montage or something…

Now, I need to get onto the next mural project…. something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time in our living room.

I will keep you posted on the progress of the next mural……

Still painting Starry Night…..

2010-04-07.jpg

Yes, I am still painting the Starry Night mural…but it is coming to an end…if that is possible…not sure when an artist every considers something “finished.”  I’m not sure if the painting looks any different from the last time I posted pictures.  I’m working on the texture of the mountains and the starry night areas.  I am also working on the outlining.  My new goal is to be done this mural by the end of the month.  I have so many other things I want to get started, but I must finish this first!

Starry Night Still Continues….

2010-01-11a3.jpg

For a little over a year now, I’ve been working on a mural that goes up our stairs.  I am trying to finish it by the end of this month.  Getting up to the higher parts of the mural is a bit difficult.  It takes a bit of creativity to reach all the spots.  I took these photos myself using the timer…but I really should have someone take some more of me….climbing along the wall as best I can with my paint brushes taped together for extra length!

Ooopss…

My goal was to write a post every week day during October…I already failed..Friday I didn’t have time!  Well, instead of beating myself up for it..I will just move on..with a new post for the new week.  This weekend felt like one of those weekends where you actually get so much done!  Not only did I accomplish productive things, but we had lots of fun.  We got out all our Halloween decorations and decorated the house and put away all the mess.  We went to Six Flags…a first for me in about 25 years!  River had a fun time.  We had my niece and her boyfriend over for dinner which was a lot of fun.  And we relaxed!  I got some painting time in!  I am determined to finish this mural by Christmas!

One year and counting…..

Well, a year ago today, I started this blog.  Originally, I started the blog to only talk about my little business…selling woolies to go with cloth diapers.  But it didn’t end up exactly that way.   I guess, like anything else, it evolved into something else….a little bit of everything.  I’m not sure what my blog is about…a little bit of everything…sort of like my life, my talents and my goals.

A lot has happened in a year…I just turned 42…wow, 42…that seems old.  But I guess it also seems young.

Anyway..the painting of the Starry Night Walls continues…as does life….

Starry Night Continues….

I’ve been working on a large mural in the stairway.  It is going to be a twist on Van Gogh’s Starry Night.  I fear it may take me a very long time to finish..but I am progressing slowly.  The tricky part is the very large wall going upstairs….it is very hard to reach and will be quite a challenge.  I will have to get creative with different ways of painting it.  I’m hoping a paintbrush taped to a long stick may do the trick, though I don’t think that will be the best option.  I don’t want to have to mess with scaffolding or anything like that….we will see….

Finished Mural….

Well, I finished the Go Dog Go Mural Number 2.  Both murals were a lot of fun.  But now they are done.  Now I am working on a mural in the hallway that goes from the foyer to the upstairs.  It will be awhile until I am finished with that one.  We’ve been working like crazy on all our Christmas gifts.  I will have to post pictures tomorrow of all the wonderful things we’ve made this year for gifts!  Happy Holidays to all!
